OUR MISSION
The Oxford Hindu Temple Project (OHTP) has as its ultimate goal the building
of a Hindu Temple in Oxford to serve all members of the Hindu Community in Oxfordshire.
To achieve this aim a fledgling voluntary community organisation has been set up
seeking to ensure that the Hindu faith is recognised as one of the six major faith
groups in Oxfordshire.
OUR VALUES
In all that we set out to accomplish the members of OHTP will be:
- Committed to consulting, and be inclusive, of all sections of the Hindu community
- Accessible to like-minded organisations and other faith groups
- Good communicators and professional at all times
- Fully accountable and transparent in all our work
We, the voluntary team, intend to create an environment in Oxfordshire in which
Hindus, the wider community, the local authority, the private sector and funding
bodies can work together to achieve our ultimate goal of building a temple.
OUR AIMS
In order to secure and deliver its mission, the OHTP team will:
- Become an elected democratic body and meet the pastoral needs of the Hindu community
- Represent the interests of the Hindu community at all inter-faith events
- Develop a fund-raising strategy and identify a wide range of potential donors
- Ensure that publicity and information is regular and accurate
- Influence and campaign with the local authorities to identify suitable sites
- Develop a full set of policies and procedures that will guide our work
- Gather examples of good practice from similar ventures
- Conduct regular Hindu prayer meetings to mobilise support and interest
- Ensure that all financial records are properly maintained
- Create and update a data base of Hindu families and individuals in the County
